This is what I call a “home run” case. This patient had very small, asymmetrical breasts as well as thoracic asymmetries. In the breast department she simply doesn’t have much at all. How do you think that makes her feel? I know, it’s a loaded question but I’m going to address the benefits and reality of a breast augmentation. I’m going to tell you why some women get this procedure done.
She is seen here after the placement of bilateral smooth walled silicone implants placed beneath the muscle. To compensate for some of her asymmetries I chose a 385cc implant on the right side and a 350cc implant on the left side. You may ask how I chose these implant sizers? How did I know it would give me a result as you see?
The answer is that we sit in front of a full length mirror with the patient and several others in the room. We try on implant sizers for as long as it takes to come to the size conclusion. What fits her figure and her personality and what makes for a size match. No computer or imaging system is going to do better than this. NO WAY JOSE.
Let me get this out of the way: no woman needs breasts for happiness and a breast augmentation is an elective procedure. However, I don’t want to not discuss the benefits of a breast augmentation. That is why it is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today. This young woman didn’t feel whole. She felt she had a chest like a body. She did not feel feminine and she was self-conscious. It’s easy to look at her post-operative photos and appreciate the femininity associated with the picture. We can imagine how she feels when she sees herself in the mirror first thing in the morning. She told me how her husband is transfixed by her new assets and how cool it is. She feels sexy. She feels desired. She feels whole. To me, this is a good thing and I’m privileged to be part of making this happen.
