This young man presented with gynecomastia that he has suffered from for quite some time. He said he had taken some hormones in the past. On exam his is quite fit and he has very little body fat. I can feel gland on both sides, left larger than the right. He is seen here on the day of his gynecomastia surgery procedure.
I used Vaser Ultrasonic Liposuction to separate the gland from the surrounding tissue and then I remove the gland from a small incision at the bottom of the areola. It’s amazing how large the gland was. It’s hard to believe that came from his chest. You can see from the photo with the gland on his chest that the contour of his chest without the gland is very nice. This is an immediate improvement as if you flipped a switch. I used my quilting sutures to compress the “dead space” that existed after removal of these masses. There is no waiting for a result – you can see it right away. Minimal liposuction was performed as he doesn’t have much fat to begin with.
Hormone induced gynecomastia is different than other causes. It tends to be painful early in its appearance and it is often glandular tissue and not the fibrofatty variety. The approach to treatment is a bit different because of this.
As many of these patients are serious weight lifters and body builders there is very little room for anything but a perfect result.
