The Long-Term Reality of Rhinoplasty: What You’re Hearing vs. What I See in Practice

Spend enough time online and you’ll come across a growing number of discussions about long-term rhinoplasty problems—collapsed bridges, pinched tips, breathing issues, and noses that simply don’t age well. These concerns are real. But they are not inevitable.

What many patients are seeing online is often the result of over-aggressive surgery. The pursuit of a small, “button” nose—over-reduced, overly sculpted, and disconnected from the patient’s natural anatomy—can come at a cost. When too much structure is removed, the nose may look acceptable early on, but over time the lack of support can lead to visible deformities and functional compromise.

This is not the experience I see in my practice.

My approach to rhinoplasty is grounded in restraint, judgment, and respect for anatomy. I do not chase trends or attempt to force a particular look onto every patient. Instead, I refine what is already there—working with the patient’s natural structure to create a result that is balanced, proportional, and stable over time.

A well-performed rhinoplasty should hold up for a lifetime, not just in the early postoperative years. Long-term stability depends on preserving the structural integrity of the nose—not weakening it in the pursuit of an artificial look. When sound surgical principles are followed, the result ages naturally and maintains both its form and function.

Equally important is patient selection. Not every patient is a good candidate for surgery, particularly those seeking unrealistic or exaggerated changes. Part of my responsibility is to guide patients toward achievable outcomes and, when necessary, advise against surgery that would compromise long-term results.

The goal is simple: a nose that looks natural, functions properly, and stands the test of time. When rhinoplasty is approached with discipline and respect for established surgical principles, the issues so often discussed online become far less common.

In the end, the best rhinoplasty is one that never calls attention to itself—today, or years from now.
