While America has an influx of highly qualified and well-performing rhinoplasty surgeons, you might wonder why some people travel to Turkey for a rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty’s are not inexpensive, it’s rather costly due to the delicate nature of the procedure and the importance this central anatomy has on an individual’s face. Although Turkey prices their rhinoplasty procedures at a much lower cost than America, as a well reputed rhinoplasty surgeon based in America, I have some concerns.

When a rhinoplasty procedure goes smoothly, everyone is satisfied; however, if complications arise, addressing them can be challenging, especially if your surgeon is located abroad. For example, undergoing rhinoplasty in Turkey can make follow-up care difficult, as your surgeon may be many time zones away. Additionally, it’s common to need a minor touch-up or adjustment after rhinoplasty, so having your surgeon nearby can be a significant advantage. With this procedure, you often get what you paid for. Since this procedure requires a high level of expertise, the few surgeons who excel at it understandably charge a premium. And for good reason - having a surgeon still learning the technique could lead to disappointing results.

Medical tourism is nothing new. When people travel abroad for medical or surgical needs, I sincerely hope they obtain what they were looking for. However, everyone needs to exercise a measure of caution to preserve the most precious aspect of our lives—our health and safety.
