This is a 46 year old mother of one who is 5’1″ and 110 pounds who presented to my office complaining about her breasts. She told me she had a breast augmentation about eight years prior and she has never really been happy with the results. She also told me that her breasts became firm over time.
She was one of the sweetest, most charming breast revision patients I have met. On examination, she had “balloon” like breasts that were rock hard. They did not move. She looked uncomfortable.
She wanted them smaller, softer and more natural in appearance. I agreed to “deflate” her saline breast implants right in the office so she can see what she will look like. They were smaller, and saggier after deflation, so we decided to perform a breast augmentation with 465cc high profile smooth walled silicone implants placed below the muscle. Her original implants were saline subglandular (on top of the muscle).
They are now soft and more natural in appearance. They feel a lot better to her. She is quite pleased with the result. We both feel that a breast lift isn’t needed at this time.
I asked her why she didn’t get this done sooner and she told me that she really didn’t know that something was wrong with her implants. I think this is a relatively common belief held by patients whose breast enhancement result is clearly not normal. Improvements can be made in most cases and this is called a breast revision. Firm, hard and painful breast implants are not normal. A breast revision specialist is a plastic surgeon who has vast experience and expertise in fixing previous breast work. I am lucky to have a large practice fixing breasts.
