Patient Details
This is an 18 year old young woman who is 5’6” and 136 pounds who was interested in a breast reduction. She complained of back and neck pain, and most importantly, she was limited on her athletic activities because of the size of her breasts. She is very self-conscious of her breasts.
She is seen here after a bilateral inferior pedicle breast reduction with the removal of about 500 grams of tissue from each breast. Her scars have done very well. She is a year out from her procedure.
She told me that since her surgery that her cup size has increased two sizes! In my twenty five years, I have never heard of this happening without out significant weight gain.
When I got her on the scale, I told her that she was up TWENTY pounds! Her breasts still look wonderful, but if she wants smaller breasts she needs to lose the weight she gained.
Lesson to learn:
- The typical scenario is weight gain = larger breasts. Losing weight typically results in smaller breasts.
