This patient was augmented with 240cc smooth walled, silicone implants placed beneath the muscle from an inframammary incision. We chose her implant size well as it fits her beautifully.
This is what an Asian breast augmentation in Austin is all about. I often joke about an “Asian surcharge” for an augmentation because Asian patients are quite different. They have much tighter skin than most. Even their deeper tissues/muscles are tighter than usual. They can be bloodier than most and no doubt Asian patients scar worse. What this means is that the surgery is more challenging than the average and scar management for many months after breast augmentation is essential for the best appearance.
Some surgeons can make the case for placement of the implants through the arm pit scar but knowing that an additional procedure is going to be happening in the future will require a second incision under the breasts makes me choose one incision over two. I recommend that my patients use silicone scar strips daily for months during the active healing process in early scars to keep them flat and fine. Hyperpigmentation or darker scars are best managed with pigment stabilizing ointments.
Post pandemic, the demand in my practice is for modest sized implants that provide for a natural look and feel as well as a more fit/athletic appearance. All my breast augmentation patients spend a lot of time in front of my full length mirror trying on various types of implants until we find the perfect fit, all the while having back and forth discussions/education/enlightenment that means a world of difference.
