Patient Details

This young man says he developed gynecomastia since puberty. He is overweight. He has puffy nipples with enlarged areola’s as well as narrow, tubular like breasts. He is not happy with his chest for sure. He is seen here after my “classic” treatment for gynecomastia with surgery. I removed glandular tissue on both sides and performed liposuction of his anterior chest area.

You can see from the post-operative photos that things are a lot better. His chest area is flatter, his areola’s are no longer puffy and his appearance is masculine. He has gained weight because he says he is “building up”. I told him he needs to lose about thirty or forty pounds.

Lessons to learn:

  1. An incision around his areola’s wasn’t necessary as his skin was going to contract. You must be careful if you choose this approach as the scar can look like two “pizza pies” on your chest if not done well. In most cases, it simply isn’t needed. This is why it is so important to choose the right surgeon so that the best decision about the surgical plan is made.
  2. Weight loss is a big deal to me and your general health. I am not one to “overlook” this issue with any one of my patients. Lose the weight before or after my surgery…but you have to lose the weight. Fortunately, gynecomastia treatment offers patients a fresh start and this has proven to be a powerful motivator.
