Patient Details

This patient lost over 125 pounds with a bariatric operation. This resulted in lax skin throughout her entire body. She is seen here after a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with skin removal and fascial tightening. I also removed skin in a vertical direction as she had skin laxity both North and South and East and West.

She is seen here about seven months from her procedure. You can see the amazing contour improvement. Her scars are still a bit red and raised but continue to improve over time.

Lessons to learn:

1. The abdominal area is typically “ground zero” after weight loss. Most problems related to excess skin show the most in this area. This is the place that we concentrate on first, and often move on to other areas like the arms and the breasts.
2. She actually has lost an additional ten pounds since her surgery. Unfortunately, this isn’t a good thing because now she is getting too skinny and her skin is collapsing and she doesn’t look as healthy. How ironic is it that now I have to ask her to gain weight after she lost all that weight?
