Patient Details

This young woman’s rhinoplasty illustrates how much nasal anatomy influences both the result and the recovery. She presented with a very wide nose, thick nasal skin, and an unusually substantial layer of fatty tissue beneath the skin—the thickest I have encountered in my rhinoplasty practice.

At just seven weeks after surgery, her nose already shows a remarkable improvement in width, shape, and overall balance. She still has swelling and fullness along the bridge, which is entirely expected given her anatomy and the work required to reduce the underlying fatty tissue. This is an early result, and I expect further refinement over the coming months as swelling gradually subsides.

Thick nasal skin presents a particular challenge in rhinoplasty. It has a limited ability to contract around the reshaped nasal framework and can conceal some of the finer details that are more visible through thinner skin. Reducing the underlying fatty tissue can help improve contour, but it also contributes to a longer period of swelling.

The lesson is that meaningful improvement is possible even with challenging anatomy, but patience and realistic expectations are essential. Her early transformation is impressive, and her final result will take more time to reveal itself.
