Patient Details
This is a 60 year old female who is 5’5″ and 124 pounds who had her silicone implants placed 36 years ago—above the muscle and from an incision beneath the breast.
Her left breast implant was contracted. Her breasts appear relatively “normal” on photographs as you can see from the examples here.
I removed her existing ruptured silicone implants that were above the muscle and removed the scar capsule around both implants completely. I put new 225cc moderate profile silicone implants below the muscle. Her breasts are now soft and symmetrical.
On the oblique and side views you can appreciate the natural slope of the breasts now, particularly on the left side. When an breast develops a contracture, often the implant moves up towards the clavicle and the takeoff of the breast is abrupt.
This case represents the “classic” case of older implants. They begin to harden and the shape may change a bit. It’s time to change out the implants. TESTS are not needed. Simply remove them or change them out.
