Currently, the two types of breast implants available on the American market are the saline and the silicone variety. If you ask breast implant manufactures which implants they sell most, it will be silicone. In my practice, nearly 95 percent of the breast implants that I use are of the silicone variety.
Without a doubt, the silicone implants offer a more natural feeling breast. Compared to saline implants, they have fewer potential complications, such as implant palpability or rippling. Ask any woman who has had experience with both varieties and she will almost always prefer the silicone. If you are faced with this choice, you will choose the silicone variety; it has the perfect consistency of a natural breast, if not better.
The saline implants are adjustable in size, but choosing the most appropriately sized implants, left and right, can easily be determined before your procedure. In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, saline breast implants still yield beautiful outcomes that can feel great. But compared to the silicone variety, saline will always come in second.
