This is an amazing case. This seventeen year old developed gynecomastia since puberty. His parents took him to their doctor and the doctor said to give it time and it would go away. He saw me and two other surgeons for their opinions. He lost 40 pounds before gynecomastia treatment surgery because he wanted to make sure that there was no confusion about what part of his chest was fat and what part was gland.
He is seen here after gynecomastia surgery with removal of those two large deposits of gland. This has been an amazing catalyst in terms of a life transformation. He tells me that it has been revolutionary in his life and his parents confirm this and can’t thank me enough.
He has some minor hard healing along the suture line on his right side. If it were not for this it would be a 0 out of 10 in his recovery mentally. He is only four months from surgery so his healing is still going on and I injected a small amount of steroids to the area and told him to massage it all day long if possible.
There is a gaping hole in the treatment of gynecomastia. I can do the surgery without a problem, but we need to learn more about the mental/psychological impact of this condition and focus our efforts and resources to getting our hands around this condition and finding ways to help gynecomastia sufferers recover fully both physically and mentally. I am focusing my current efforts towards this goal.
